Flos Frisbi Pendant Light - Black

Inspired by the classic flying disk, Achille Castiglioni’s sleek pendant incorporates three types of illumination—diffused, direct, and reflected. Three slender steel cables suspend the opal acrylic diffuser, creating the illusion that it’s floating above your table or countertop. A black metal stem and wire mesh basket assembly secure the reflector to its cord. Both the designer and the lamp’s manufacturer, Flos, are represented in MoMA’s collection. Made in Italy. Born in Milan in 1918, Achille Castiglioni is an internationally acknowledged master of Italian design. During his 52-year career, he designed and collaborated on nearly 150 design objects, from lamps to cameras to car seats. His work is known for combining simplicity with fun, along with close attention to how objects are used in real life. In 1997, MoMA launched the first individual retrospective of his work with the exhibition Achille Castiglioni: Design! Prior to that, his designs were featured in numerous exhibitions at the Museum, including The Modern Movement in Italy: Architecture and Design (1954) and Recent Acquisitions: Design (1967-8 and 1970-1). Castiglioni’s work has had a significant impact on the history of the applied arts and has taught generations about good design.
